Rules & Restrictions on Fishing in the Cayman Islands

While visitors are welcome to enjoy the various fishing activities available in the Cayman Islands, they should be aware of certain restrictions, size limits and fishing seasons:

• Spear fishing of any kind is prohibited to non-Caymanians and importing any kind of spearing device is illegal.
• Visitors may engage in line fishing from shore or from a boat. While visitors may go fishing alone, it is advisable to take a guide to show you the best spots and ensure you do not enter designated marine parks or other protected areas.
• Lobster season is closed from March 1^st to November 30th. In season, lobsters must be at least 6 inches long and a maximum of 3 per person or 6 per boat is allowed.
• Conch season is closed May 1^st to October 30^th. In season the limit is 5 per person or 10 per boat.
• Nassau Grouper season is closed December 1st to April 30th. In season, groupers must be a minimum of 16 inches and a maximum of 24 inches long. The daily maximum is 5 per person or 5 per boat.
• Other species may only be removed from the sea if they are over 8 inches.
• Catching turtles or taking turtle eggs is prohibited
• Sharks may not be fed or attracted with food
