Additional Information
What is Bioluminescence?
On land, fireflies are a good example of what it’s like. Bioluminescence is defined as “Life Emitting Light.” It is a common occurrence in the sea. However, to find an area with high concentrations of it on a regular basis is rare and something not to be missed. Tiny microorganisms called ‘Pyrodinium Bahamanse’ are responsible for this captivating display. When at rest, they appear to sparkle, but when disturbed they release more light to be seen. Come experience it for yourself. The bioluminescence is best seen on the darkest nights of the month.
Is It Safe to Swim?
Guests are allowed to swim
during the tour, but Cayman Kayaks discourages it to prevent fouling the water
and the risk of jellyfish stings. If you choose to swim, please ensure you
arrive for the tour free of any non-reef-safe chemicals or lotions. Wearing a
long-sleeved rash guard is also recommended for additional protection.
Location
Meet your guides at Rum Point (Free Parking). When facing the ocean, head to the far left side of the beach.
